Czechoslovakia had ratified CERD on 29 December 1966, CCPR on 23 December 1975, CCPR OP 1 on 12 March 1991, CESCR on 23 December 1975, CEDAW on 16 February 1982, CAT on 7 July 1988, CRC on 7 January 1991, and subsequently Czechoslovakia dissolved into the states of Czech Republic and Slovakia. In a letter dated 16 February 1993, the Government of the Czech Republic, as a successor state, notified the Secretary-General that it considered itself bound, as of 1 January 1993, i.e., the date of dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, by multilateral international treaties to which the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic was a party on that date.

The Human Rights Committee set the date for the submission of the second periodic report at 4 February 1983.

In its concluding observations adopted on 24 July 2001, the Human Rights Committee requested that the State party submit additional information within one year and that the second periodic report be submitted by 1 August 2005.

At its seventy-ninth session in October/November 2003, the Human Rights Committee decided to take no further action.

In its concluding observations adopted on 25 July 2007, the Human Rights Committee requested that additional information be submitted within one year.

Partial reply submitted on 18 August 2008 (see A/64/40 vol. I, page 190). After the Committee sent reminder letters in 2009, and requested a meeting with a representative of the state party in February 2010, supplementary responses were received on 22 March 2010 and 1 July 2010. In April 2011 the Committee considered the additional information and decided to take no further action (see A/66/40 vol. I (2011) at pages 206-207).

The 2009 annual report of the Human Rights Committee (A/64/40, vol. I) lists the due date of the third periodic report as 1 August 2011.
