Informal consultation with states : Chile, Japan. 11/06/2002.

Convention Abbreviation: INFORMAL CONSULTATION WITH STATES

Note by the secretariat

Under agenda item 9, the chairpersons of treaty bodies will have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with representatives of States on the functioning of the treaty bodies. The general topic proposed for that dialogue is the treaty bodies' methods of work relating to the State reporting process. The present document contains suggestions by States for more specific topics of discussion, within that broad subject.

With regard to the agenda items, we see no problems with any of the items listed in the table of contents [of the draft background paper]. However, considering the time frame, it would be more useful to focus on topics directly relating to the State's reporting, such as the items on scheduling of reports and on periodicity of reporting/acceptance of combined reports, so that we can hold a discussion in depth.
