3 On 3 October 1990 the Federal Republic of Germany notified the Secretary-General that through the accession of the German Democratic Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany, with effect from 3 October 1990, the two German states had united to form one sovereign state, to act in the United Nations under the designation “Germany”. The above dates of ratification of CERD, CCPR, CESCR, CEDAW, CAT, denote the date of ratification of the Federal Republic of Germany, in accordance with its notification of 3 October 1990. The German Democratic Republic had ratified CERD on 23 March 1973, CCPR on 8 November 1973, CESCR on 8 November 1973, CEDAW on 9 July 1980 and CAT on 9 September 1987.

5 “s” means that the State is a signatory only.
