¹ On 3 October 1990 the Federal Republic of Germany notified the Secretary-General that through the accession of the German Democratic Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany, with effect from 3 October 1990, the two German states had united to form one sovereign state, to act in the United Nations under the designation “Germany”.

² The Human Rights Committee set the date for the submission of the second periodic report at 4 February 1983.
