Formerly Yugoslavia. Effective 4 February 2003, the State of Yugoslavia changed its name to Serbia and Montenegro. Effective 6 June 2006, the state again changed its name to Republic of Serbia.

In its concluding observations adopted on 16 November 1998, the Committee Against Torture requested that the second periodic report be submitted by 30 November 1999.

The report submitted on 3 May 2006 was originally the second periodic report of Serbia and Montenegro, which was due on 30 November 1999 (CAT/C/SRB/2). Subsequent to the declaration of independence of Montenegro, the Committee Against Torture considered this report to be the initial report of the Republic of Serbia (see CAT/C/SRB/2/Corr.1).

In its concluding observations adopted on 18 November 2008, the Committee Against Torture requested that additional information be submitted within one year, and invited the State party to submit its second periodic report by 21 November 2012.

On 23 May 2011, the Committee made a request for further clarification (A/66/44 (2011) at page 147).
