3 On 19 May 1990 the Yemen Arab Republic and the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen informed the Secretary-General that the Republics would merge into a single State called the Republic of Yemen’ on 22 May 1990. As concerns the treaties concluded prior to their union by the Yemen Arab Republic or the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, the Republic of Yemen is a party as from the date when one of these States first became a party to those treaties. Prior to unification, the Yemen Arab Republic had ratified CERD on 6 April 1989 and CESCR on 8 February 1987 and the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen had ratified CERD on 18 October 1972, CCPR on 9 February 1987 and CEDAW on 30 May 1984.
