On4May1994,IcalleduponthemembersoftheCommissiontoconsiderthe  x advisabilityofconveningaspecialsessiontoaddresstheworsening  g  situation.Thereupon,Iembarkeduponapersonalmissiontothearea V  accompaniedbyMr._Joinet_Ԁasanindependentexpertandbystafffromthe E  CentreforHumanRights.Duringmymission,Imetwithrepresentativesofthe z4  mainpartiestotheconflictandappealedtothemtostopthehumanrights i#  violations,agreetoanimmediateceasefireandworktowardsanegotiated X  settlementoftheconflict.
