Corrigendum


The present document contains the corrections received from members of the Committee, delegations and the Secretariat applying to the English text of the summary records of the meetings of the Committee against Torture at its seventeenth session (CAT/C/SR.262-280/Add.1).

With the issuance of the present corrigendum, the summary records of the above-mentioned meetings are to be considered final.

266th meeting

Paragraph 6, last sentence

Replace the text by the following:

The new Penal Procedure Code reinforced the prosecutors' right to inspect detention centres and authorized them to give orders for the immediate release of persons illegally arrested or detained. The right to defence of the suspect or the accused had also been strengthened.

Paragraph 8, last two sentences

Replace the text by the following:

He recognized that there was more to be accomplished. He was convinced, however, that as the Republic of Korea had already become an open and pluralistic society, the ever-present watchful eye of the National Assembly, the media and active NGOs would continue to contribute to the further improvement of the human rights situation in Korea.
