The State parties to a treaty will meet periodically to conduct business in relation to that treaty, most notably the election of members of the treaty body. Typically, the States parties meet every two years to conduct these elections (terms of election are typically four years for a Committee member; the terms of office are staggered, with approximately one half of the Committee positions becoming vacant every two years). Occasionally, State parties will meet more often, typically to elect members where an early vacancy has occurred.
